My Bang Energy Commercial

This was a large step-up from the last video project I did, which was longer, but consisted of much less planning and editing. Initially, I thought that I had too many things to do and that I should constrict my ideas in order to get the best of everything. Now, I realize that taking so many different shots and scenes helped me to get the best result possible. I was intimidated at the beginning of the project because from the first scene, I was struggling to get a short enough take. I realized how short 5 second scenes really were. I had to cut many of the actions down from some of my scenes so that I could make others longer. Without the 30 second limit, I may have thrown in a couple other scenes, but they only served for dramatic effect. Because I based the filming close to home, I was able to do all of my scenes within a few hours of the day. Although I was anticipating a much more hectic and tedious editing process, having so many extra scenes and takes, I was able to put it all together without having to go back to filming. Trimming every shot to get it to play through smoothly was the biggest challenge. Having all of the clips in and being able to adjust them back and forth through iMovie made this process much easier. One of the problems I had with my last project is that I trimmed the clips before putting them into the software, which made some of the scenes slightly choppy. Once I had the scenes how I wanted them, I added in the sound effects and music. I timed the doorbell sound at the beginning to match my head movement in the first scene. I added in a recording at the end of me saying the Bang energy slogan and adjusted the clip to end at the end of the recording. This helped to shorten the commercial by an additional two seconds and give more slack for the other clips. Adding in the song was one of the most difficult aspects of the editing process because it was so hard to move it around. After playing with it for a while, I finally got the beat drop right where I wanted it. Adding the music really made the project much more enjoyable to watch. Once I mixed the audio to play the way I wanted it, I couldn't have been happier with the completed project. I learned so much about the editing process through this project, as well as the value of capturing as much footage as possible when filming. I am excited to see what I can do moving forward, applying my new skills and trying to implement more stuff that I am learning.
