Music Video Editing Blog

After the second day of filming, I knew that I had more than enough to make a good, concise music video. I was positive that we would not need to film any extra, and it ended up working out that way. I had a hard time deciding which way I wanted to go with it. At first, I placed the scenes the way they were on the storyboard, but the mall scene seemed more confusing than anything. By keeping everything in the same area, and finding Santa under the pier at the beach, it made the video much funnier. There was only one scene that I needed to fix, but it ended up making the video funnier. I filmed myself going back to close the door that my friend left open, making awkward eye contact with a dog in the house. I decided not to use many of the lip-syncing videos, because it took concentration away from the action going on. The video came out to be just under two minutes. The scenes were on average about 12 seconds after trimming everything to perfection. I was thinking of finding a way to add some of the establishing shots, but when I put them in, it is dark and does not really introduce or explain much. I tried to implement some different camera movements and I found a lot of new functions on iMovie. I could've thrown in the lip-syncing scenes to make it longer and a little more spaced out, but I felt that it flowed smoother without them. Because we were not lip-syncing I experimented with a few songs and decided to do Last Christmas by Wham. I mixed the sounds on the scenes because there were some unnecessary background noises. I threw filters on some scenes to make the lights and colors more vibrant. I also used filters to make dark scenes more dark and mysterious, and blur out unnecessary things in the background. I implemented fading transitions between some of the scenes to show a change in location and/or time. I have watched through it multiple times looking for any mistakes or anything I could add to improve the video.
