Title Research: Action Genre
For this example, I chose the film Rango, which I just watched the introduction for, and you get a closer look at the intricate details and vibrant colors representing each character. I found this to be a fascinating way to give tribute to both the artists who help to create and animate the movie, and the actors who voice the characters. By setting apart from the typical animation style of the movie, the viewer's reality is distorted temporarily, and the normal can be appreciated more. They use lots of action shots with dull figures to show how far the development process came to reach the final product.
- What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? The movie title, the director, the writer, the voice actors
- What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? Lots of colorful art depicting these characters mostly in action shots, in early stages of animation.
- What connotations do these images carry? These images show how far the production has come to reach the final product and complete story.
- How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset? Through the fast-paced music, action shots in the establishing credits, and fierce looks and intimidating character pictures
- What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? through the vibrant colors and fast changes in scenery, as well as comedic action and protagonist, the film appeals to a younger audience that loves excitement
- How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing techniques. The editing and animation used in this opening really brings the characters to life right from the start, and sets the scene for the wild story ahead. Even though you can tell that many of these sketches are very blotchy and not complete, it sets the frame for the finished product to unfold onto.
