Music Video Day 1 Filming Blog

Image
On November 23rd, I held the first day of filming for my music video. We met up at night at the beach at Las Olas. This wasn't the place we initially planned on filming, but we got some shots that will add to the scenery of the music video. We went to the mall and filmed some of the scenes outside, but it was closed so we did not go inside. We took videos of us dancing around in the empty parking lot, which is pretty funny ironically. We got a scene of us looking up at the massive deer, which are strung completely with Christmas lights. I would have liked to have done more, but there was a narrow gap for us all to meet up and film it. We were only able to film for about an hour or so before they had to leave, but we will have much more time and be better prepared for the next shoot. I have not begun editing anything yet, but we have almost 30 seconds of footage, some of which will be cut. By the time editing rolls around, there should be at least 2 minutes of footage, but I am hopi...

Music Video Planning Storyboard

First Scene - The opening scene will be me and my friend, Miguel, as Christmas elves, wrapping presents. We will be wrapping boxes and toys with wrapping paper. I intend for this to be done comically bad, tearing paper, and using the wrong tools. The music will start and we will get all excited, running out into the night.  Second Scene -  We will go out knocking on doors and asking to Christmas carol, to some delight and some dismissal. Singing songs, running around admiring Christmas decorations, it will be difficult to maintain character.  Third Scene -  Following all signs of Christmas, we will find a giant tree which is located at Lauderdale By The Sea. With lots of people there, and us being in costume, we are sure to gravitate a lot of attention, making the whole thing a lot funnier. We will sit there in awe, and possibly hail the great tree. Fourth Scene -  Finding more Christmas decorations, we head into a bright building surrounded by Christmas c...

Props:  The props that I will be using for my music video are caroling books, Christmas presents, tools, and milk, and cookies. There will not be extensive use of props, because we are not advertising anything, but they will serve to add comedic value and Christmas things to our video. Costumes:  There will be two costumes worn throughout the video. The elf outfit will be green with a tall pointy hat and large shoes. This will attract us a lot of attention and be comical to run around in publicly. The Santa outfit will be the typical fluffy red suit, black boots, with a red hat and white beard. We will wear these throughout the entirety of the commercial, in order to stay in character.  Schedule: On 11/12, I researched songs that I wanted to do. I was having trouble deciding for a while when I came to the idea of doing a Christmas song. I decided to do "All I Want For Christmas," because I am sick of it already and it is a classic. On 11/15, I researched conventions of mu...

For my music video, the actors starring in it will be my friends Miguel, Camilo, and myself of course. I have a few people that are able to film us too, so I should be able to employ many new camera angles and movements. This is subject to change due to the COVID pandemic and other possible scheduling issues. They are not students in the class, but I have managed to convince them to do this with me. I am going to do the majority of the editing myself, but my friends will most likely help me with the filming process to make it come out as good as possible. I and a friend will be dressed up as Christmas elves. We will be wandering around sunny Florida trying to find Santa. I hope that by the time Thanksgiving passes, there will be Christmas decorations set up around the city. I know a few places already, one downtown, and one at the beach with big Christmas trees and decorations. We will knock on doors Christmas caroling, run around under trees, make presents, and ask people where Santa ...

As someone who listens to music a lot, I've had a hard time deciding what song to choose for my music video. I listen to a lot of hip-hop, so finding an ideal song that is school appropriate was difficult for me. I originally thought of the song 9mm and a Three Piece Suit, because it is funny and fast-paced. I thought that filming a couple friends running around in ski masks would be funny to film. Although I thought this was a good idea, I came to the conclusion that doing a Christmas song would be more fitting, especially if I happen to be doing my project alone. I am choosing to do the song, All I Want For Christmas Is You, by Mariah Carey. I think that this would be a more enjoyable, light-hearted experience, and I am already sick of the song, so making a video on it won't ruin it for me. Given the time of the year, making this is very fitting, and I know that I could do this alone and make it funny. I have an elf and Santa costume, so it could turn out to be pretty funny. ...

Commercial Creative Critical Reflection

1. My project uses conventions of the humor genre to project and exaggerate its point. When I click on the ad, I do not have an extended reaction, but it is still relatable. My use of the energy drink to allow me to do many pages of work almost instantaneously is subtle but humorous. The use of music helps to emphasize the positive energy that the drink gives me, the beat dropping right when I make the basket. My use of the filter helps to show that the drink opens up the brightness in the day to me. Because I am the only one in the video, you can see that I get things done without the influence of somebody else. Also, being alone, the humor is held in my actions, and is much more noticeable. The different angles I used helped to capture my reactions and the humor in everything that was happening. I made sure to keep the Bang in almost every shot to emphasize its value and priority as the subject. My product represents an issue that everybody faces: laziness. This product, as evidenced...

This was a large step-up from the last video project I did, which was longer, but consisted of much less planning and editing. Initially, I thought that I had too many things to do and that I should constrict my ideas in order to get the best of everything. Now, I realize that taking so many different shots and scenes helped me to get the best result possible. I was intimidated at the beginning of the project because from the first scene, I was struggling to get a short enough take. I realized how short 5 second scenes really were. I had to cut many of the actions down from some of my scenes so that I could make others longer. Without the 30 second limit, I may have thrown in a couple other scenes, but they only served for dramatic effect. Because I based the filming close to home, I was able to do all of my scenes within a few hours of the day. Although I was anticipating a much more hectic and tedious editing process, having so many extra scenes and takes, I was able to put it all to...
