Bang Commercial Editing Blog: Creating my Final Product
Going into the editing process, I was confident that I had everything I needed for the final product to come out the way I wanted. With thorough planning and plenty of takes, I was able to size everything down almost perfectly. My result was a commercial that flows seamlessly. I edited everything using iMovie on my phone, and it gave me little problems other than with the music (described later). The main problem I had was trying to size everything down and still get all six scenes and every action in them. I ended up cutting the running scene and the soccer scene because they were too long to fit. I adjusted the clips from my initial planning, cutting out the order confirmation, the picking up of the can, the sleeping on the desk, the running scene, the soccer scene, and reducing the basketball scene down to two clips. Despite this, I was still just over the 35 seconds, so I trimmed every clip a little bit more and got it down to 29.8 seconds. I added in a filter to make the day seem more colorful outside and to liven the dark inside up a little. Once I got everything into position and at the right time, I added the sound effects. I only added a doorbell and a voice memo of me saying the Bang slogan, but it didn't need anything more. I took a while deciding what song I would use to shadow over the commercial when I stumbled upon the perfect song. What I was looking for was something with a good bass drop and little to no lyrics. I input Kanye West's "Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1." Once I had all of my sounds in, I had to mix the audio perfectly. I had some problems trying to get the music in the right spot because it kept cutting out the end of it. I was glad at the end of it all that I had the extra scenes and takes because it proved vital in the editing process just as I thought. I think that going forward I should try to be more aware of how long the scenes are going to be. Luckily, I was able to squeeze it down to under 30 seconds, but if I was not paying attention to how long the takes were, this could have gone another direction. Having so many ideas for this project and brainstorming alternatives proved to be crucial to me in this process. I was surprised at how much I needed to cut down and scrap when putting everything together. Watching it over, I am pleased with the finished project and it turned out very good.
