Bang Commercial Editing Blog: Creating my Final Product

Image
Going into the editing process, I was confident that I had everything I needed for the final product to come out the way I wanted. With thorough planning and plenty of takes, I was able to size everything down almost perfectly. My result was a commercial that flows seamlessly. I edited everything using iMovie on my phone, and it gave me little problems other than with the music (described later). The main problem I had was trying to size everything down and still get all six scenes and every action in them. I ended up cutting the running scene and the soccer scene because they were too long to fit. I adjusted the clips from my initial planning, cutting out the order confirmation, the picking up of the can, the sleeping on the desk, the running scene, the soccer scene, and reducing the basketball scene down to two clips. Despite this, I was still just over the 35 seconds, so I trimmed every clip a little bit more and got it down to 29.8 seconds. I added in a filter to make the day seem ...

Bang Commercial Filming Blog

Image
On Wednesday, October 28th, I began the filming for my commercial project. I went to the convenience store close to my house and bought two Bang Energy drinks. I did this in case if I opened one and wanted to redo the scene I would have a second chance. Due to the bad weather, I was not able to go to the soccer field and shoot. As much as this could've stumped me, I have a basketball hoop already next to my house, and I could do a scene of me running and doing homework to make up for this. After I began doing my scenes, I quickly realized how short 5 seconds per scene was. This will be a problem I have to tackle in the editing process, but I tried to keep the scenes as short as possible and still get all of the footage. I made sure to implement different camera angles throughout to capture the subject of the commercial, the Bang Energy drink, throughout the process. I made a change in the filming from pajamas into a basketball jersey to show that the drink got me hyped up to go out...

Planning Storyboard for my Bang Commercial

Image
First Scene -  The picture will open on me being on my computer, clearly lacking energy and cranky. This scene will take place in my room, and will be an over-the-shoulder shot, in order to capture myself and what is happening on the screen. The shot will zone in, shifting focus onto my screen. Then, an ad pops up for the mysterious Bang energy. I will then accidentally order it trying to click away.  Then the doorbell rings to my surprise. Second Scene -  The next scene will be me opening the door to see who or what is there. Upon opening it, I notice the Bang energy at the door and shout to whoever left it there. I look around and then pick it up off the ground. Not seeing anyone, I examine it, look back up, and scoff. I will be wearing pajamas to emphasize that I wasn't planning on doing anything outside. Third Scene - In this scene, the camera will be at the back corner of my room. I will throw the drink down and sit back down to do work. Clearly unmotivate...

Planning for my Bang Commercial

Image
Props:  The commercial is for Bang Energy Drinks, so that will be the main prop. Other props include: a soccer ball, basketball, watch, computer, paper, and pencil. Costumes:  I will be wearing various costumes depending on the scene. I will wear pajamas in the opening scene to show that I am tired and unmotivated. When I decide to go for a run I will wear a simple running outfit. I will then wear a basketball jersey when I am playing basketball. After I go to play soccer I will wear a soccer outfit. I will be wearing running shoes, or cleats in the film. I might wear a headband so that my hair doesn't get in my face. I will wear a watch when running.  Schedule:  On 10/21, I brainstormed ideas for my commercial, and researched conventions. On 10/22, I established a main idea for the structure of the commercial, consisting of the props, costumes, settings, props, and alternative ideas.  On 10/24, I will create a storyboard for my commercial, plotting out each of ...

Research Blog: Commercial Conventions

For my commercial currently as I have it planned out, the only character in the film will be me. I am doing it this way due to coronavirus restrictions in part. By keeping the subject on myself, you can see the impact of the product better. It will set up the advertisement to show how much work you can get done if you are energized and excited. In the beginning, I will be by myself doing nothing important, when I accidentally order an energy drink from an ad. After being annoyed by this, I will find the energy drink at my doorstep and then drink it out of spite. After this, I will go out and be extremely active, getting progressively more energized. I will go to a basketball court, go for a run, play soccer, and do other work all with exaggerated success and speed. I will use the variation of setting to emphasize the amount of stuff I got done with the extra energy. Quickly jumping from place to place will help to emphasize the amount of possibilities that added energy enables to the c...
