Bang Commercial Filming Blog

On Wednesday, October 28th, I began the filming for my commercial project. I went to the convenience store close to my house and bought two Bang Energy drinks. I did this in case if I opened one and wanted to redo the scene I would have a second chance. Due to the bad weather, I was not able to go to the soccer field and shoot. As much as this could've stumped me, I have a basketball hoop already next to my house, and I could do a scene of me running and doing homework to make up for this. After I began doing my scenes, I quickly realized how short 5 seconds per scene was. This will be a problem I have to tackle in the editing process, but I tried to keep the scenes as short as possible and still get all of the footage. I made sure to implement different camera angles throughout to capture the subject of the commercial, the Bang Energy drink, throughout the process. I made a change in the filming from pajamas into a basketball jersey to show that the drink got me hyped up to go outside and play. I set up camera angles in different areas all around my room to show what exactly was happening. For the opening scene, I implemented an over-the-shoulder shot so that you could see the Bang ad pop up on the computer as I accidentally order it. When I answer the door, the low-angle shows the Bang on the floor and my disappointment with it. In the next scene, there is a side-angle of me getting to work immediately at a fast pace. The next shot is a bird's eye view of me with all of the work I did, finishing the sip I started in the previous scene. I then go off to play basketball, as the camera takes the form of the energy drink. I throw down a dunk, look into the camera, and celebrate. The process took around two hours because I needed to retake many of the shots and also took some unnecessary footage that may not make the final version for timing purposes. I believe that today I got almost all if not all necessary footage to begin the editing process. I am pleased with the progress and hope to get through the editing in a somewhat seamless fashion. If not, I have plenty of time to refilm and adjust scenes to get a final product that meets my standards. I tried to keep the additional props to a minimum in the scenes, using only the bang energy, a pencil and paper, a computer, and a basketball, to hopefully keep attention on the Bang drink. The only scene I need to add is a transition into a picture of a bang with their slogan, and a voiceover from me.
