Research Blog: Commercial Conventions
For my commercial currently as I have it planned out, the only character in the film will be me. I am doing it this way due to coronavirus restrictions in part. By keeping the subject on myself, you can see the impact of the product better. It will set up the advertisement to show how much work you can get done if you are energized and excited. In the beginning, I will be by myself doing nothing important, when I accidentally order an energy drink from an ad. After being annoyed by this, I will find the energy drink at my doorstep and then drink it out of spite. After this, I will go out and be extremely active, getting progressively more energized. I will go to a basketball court, go for a run, play soccer, and do other work all with exaggerated success and speed. I will use the variation of setting to emphasize the amount of stuff I got done with the extra energy. Quickly jumping from place to place will help to emphasize the amount of possibilities that added energy enables to the consumer. The props that I will use will be a computer, paper and pencil, a watch, an energy drink, a basketball, a soccer ball, a basketball hoop, and a soccer goal. Using a vast amount of props will allow me to accomplish a large amount of things under a shorter amount of time than imaginable. The commercial will be very much fictional, exaggerating the point that many of the commercials energy drink companies try to make. To make the film more relatable and unassuming at first, I will not have music. Once I am under the effects of the energy, I will play fast hype music to make the montage better, and also make the commercial memorable. I will shoot the footage on my iPhone 8, to give it a more personal feel, as though you are there watching me go through the story. I will use speeded up effects to exaggerate how much energy I am given by the drink. The theme of the ad will be motivation. Under the additional energy, a previously slacking, excuse maker becomes someone who gets everything and is able to get everything done is his day. At the end of the commercial I wanna show that I run out of the drink and am sad, and I drop it and the advisory warning going super fast in a close up of the can. I think that my expectations for this film are great, but these are some ideas that I'd like to implement and if I can do some of these, then the film should come out great.
