Music Video Planning Blog
Props:
The props that I will be using for my music video are caroling books, Christmas presents, tools, and milk, and cookies. There will not be extensive use of props, because we are not advertising anything, but they will serve to add comedic value and Christmas things to our video.
Costumes:
There will be two costumes worn throughout the video. The elf outfit will be green with a tall pointy hat and large shoes. This will attract us a lot of attention and be comical to run around in publicly. The Santa outfit will be the typical fluffy red suit, black boots, with a red hat and white beard. We will wear these throughout the entirety of the commercial, in order to stay in character.
Schedule:
On 11/12, I researched songs that I wanted to do. I was having trouble deciding for a while when I came to the idea of doing a Christmas song. I decided to do "All I Want For Christmas," because I am sick of it already and it is a classic.
On 11/15, I researched conventions of music videos and consulted Christmas music videos and movies for inspiration. I brainstormed an idea for the video, where we dressed up in elf costumes and went around looking for Santa and spreading Christmas cheer.
On 11/16, I came up with a plan for the Music Video and made up filming dates with my friends to film scenes, plotting where we would go and how we would get there.
On 11/19, I will make a storyboard for my music video, coming up with a fully thought out story to go along with the song chosen. I will try to keep in mind how long each scene will be and the exact actions done in those scenes.
I will likely take some time off to spend time with family because I will be out of town and unable to film.
On 11/27, I will begin filming, getting enough extra scenes and footage as possible, to make sure that everything comes out as perfect as possible. The hope is that I will be able to get everything done in one day, but if not we could plan the next day or later on in the weekend.
On 12/1 I will hopefully be able to begin the editing process. If not, I will still be on schedule to complete the project in time, but the hope is for me to be done with it before going back to school. Hopefully, Once done editing, I will be left with a product I am fully satisfied with that lines up well with the music.
Location List:
We will start out at my house, where we are putting together presents on the counter in anticipation for Christmas. After, we will go around the neighborhood, knocking on doors and caroling to people. I am planning on filming at Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. There is a big Christmas tree there, and often a good amount of people, so it could be a good scene. I also want to film at the Galleria Mall, because they put up large reindeer decorations, which we could stare at comedically. Inside the mall, we will find Santa and drag him out with us. We will go back to my house to film a scene where we put presents under the tree and eat milk and cookies. The majority of the filming will be from a third-person perspective, as though they are just an innocent bystander.
Backup Plan:
My backup location would be at the beach at my friend's apartment complex. Because the majority of it is covered, the weather would not prevent us from filming here and provide a more comedically awkward atmosphere. We would probably come out of the water onto the beach, as castaways, stumbling up to the apartment building. I think that I have enough ideas that we could make a good commercial no matter what the circumstances. Because we have a lot of time over break, I do not see the weather stopping us from filming, but I have multiple filmers to capture us.
