Starting the Final Task

My name is Jake Kreis, and I am a senior at Fort Lauderdale High School. AICE Media has been one of my favorite classes this year, because it allowed me so much freedom to express my filmmaking creativity. For this project I am working with my friends Miguel and Camilo, and possibly my parents. I am working with them because they have experience in film, having taken this course previously. They can help me to portray every scene just the way I want it. I have worked with them before, and we are used to working together, so it should be fun. I'm excited to start this project, and think that diversifying the genre of my work should make things more fun. I think that acting in a horror film will end up looking more comedic given the lack of realism and poor acting. This is not a drawback for me, but a potential horizon to work upon. If I make a villain that is more laughable than scary, it'll make the project as a whole possibly more entertaining to create. I think that making a horror movie by myself would be difficult because most contain multiple characters which offer different appeals. This also gives me more creative freedom to express various ideas, where as having one or two characters acted solely by myself is more limiting. Nonetheless, I believe that as long as I stick to the amount of effort I put in prior projects earlier this year, this film should come smoothly. As far as production goes, the editing process, lighting and angles are asking new things of me, and I will need to record most of the scenes at night. This means that planning this project may be slightly more difficult and I need to get everyone on board for filming ahead of time. This means that in order for the production to come out the way I want it, I need to get a storyboard out and have every little detail in place as soon as possible, so that I can be ready to get every shot possible on the first filming day. As far as the setting goes, I was thinking of doing the whole thing in and around my house, for ease of access. I am nervous to see how this project is going to play out, and I plan on doing some experimenting with the lighting and the camera effects to make it seem as homemade and life-like as possible. I will use an iPhone 11 for the filming of this project to make it seem like someone is personally documenting it, and form a greater attachment from the viewer to the characters in the movie. I like this because it gives much more freedom for the camera movement and I plan on doing as much as possible to give a good first person perspective as often as possible. I want to shoot some scenes separately from multiple different angles because I am unsure if I want to limit the view to one person, or if I want to change up to capture the scenes from a greater perspective.
